Celebrating and recognising civil engineering excellence.
The ICE NI awards recognise civil engineering excellence within Northern Ireland while the scholarship programme nurtures the next generation of civil engineering excellence.
The two main regional awards are the Poskitt and Ferguson medals which are awarded at the ICE NI Dinner held in December each year.
The Ferguson Medal
The medal is awarded each year to the author(s) of the best paper considered by a panel of ICE NI committee members to have been presented during the year.
Robert Ferguson OBE was a founder of the firm of R Ferguson & S McIlveen's in 1965, and in 1982 initiated the Ferguson Medal in recognition of Robert Ferguson's contribution to civil engineering and the Institution within Northern Ireland.
The Ferguson Medal was won for the session 2010-2011 by Sam McManus (AECOM) and Neil McKenzie (Lagan Construction) for their paper "Maiden City Sewers".
The Poskitt Medal
The Poskitt Medal commemorates Northern Ireland's Past Chairman (1972-73) who bequeathed a legacy to ICE to establish a commemorative prize in his name for "the best paper on design or construction of water resource or water supply works submitted in any year by a regional member".
In December 2011 Dr Phil Donald was awarded the Poskitt Medal on his presentation "The Complete Story of the Silent Valley".
