If it has not been possible for you to either enter into or complete a Training Agreement, but have gained suffiecient experience, you should apply to the ICE for a Career Appraisal in order to have your Initial Professional Development and Continuing Professional Development authenticated.
What is a Career Appraisal?
The Career Appraisal is a documentary submission with the possibility of an interview. The requirements of the ICE Development Objectives for Eng Tech TMICE/ AMICE / MICE and IEng MICE / CEng MICE (depending on the level of membership sort), must be met and verified through the Career Appraisal. process. All relevant knowledge and experience may count when assessing your IPD, which can be obtained from:
- when undertaking formal academic education,
- when employed or when working in a voluntary capacity.
- pre-graduation experience from industrial placements and part-time or vacation work may also count.
ICE strongly advises you maintain a full training record, which will greatly strengthen your submission for Career Appraisal and also for your Professional Review.
Please note: A Career Appraisal is not a pre-requisite for Technician Membership (TMICE)
How will my experience be assessed?
Your experience will be assessed on an individual basis to determine whether you have the same basic competences as someone who has successfully completed their Initial Professional Development (IPD) via an ICE approved Training Agreement. If your application is approved you will be advised that you can proceed to the Professional Review.
You will not be eligible to apply for a Career Appraisal if you are currently registered on a formal Training Scheme with a Professional Engineering Institution (PEI) where the ICE have a Mutual Exemption Agreement (MEA). Please refer to Career Appraisal guidance for detail.
