Applications now open for the next President’s Future Leaders
ICE President Professor Anusha Shah’s Future Leaders for 2023-24

Incoming ICE President, Professor Jim Hall, is looking for six student members on degree apprenticeships, graduate members, or technician members to join him as his Future Leaders.

The President’s Future Leaders Scheme is an opportunity for up-and-coming engineers and technicians to gain an insight into the top of the profession and to boost their careers.

Successful candidates will:

  • work on strategic ICE projects
  • attend key institution events
  • meet senior industry people and politicians
  • be mentored by the president
  • accompany him on regional visits

Infrastructure strategy for a sustainable future

Prof Hall will use his presidential year to focus on how we strategically plan for the infrastructure that will be needed in the future.

Every country needs an infrastructure strategy. Lessons have already been learned about how to plan and deliver infrastructure – experience and best practice need to be shared.

As such, Prof Hall is aligning his theme with the ICE-led Enabling Better Infrastructure (EBI) programme, which supports governments in planning infrastructure strategically to meet people’s needs.

In promoting this theme, Prof Hall will be drawing upon his own experiences as:

  • a commissioner of the UK’s National Infrastructure Commission;
  • a former member of the UK’s Committee on Climate Change Adaptation;
  • an infrastructure systems researcher; and
  • chair of the EBI steering group.

He wants to collaborate with his Future Leaders to find the best examples of what works, and what hasn’t worked so well.

They will also explore what skills the civil and infrastructure engineers of the future will need.

Prof Hall wants his Future Leaders to innovate in how we communicate, share knowledge and inspire.

Become an ICE President’s Future Leader

The scheme is open to ICE student members on degree apprenticeships, graduate members working towards professional qualification and technician members.

Applicants should submit the completed application form, their CV, a reference from their line manager, and their answer to the question given either in written or video format to [email protected].

The deadline is 12pm (UK time) on Friday 19 July 2024.

Further details can be found on the ICE website.
