Calling all student members on degree apprenticeships, graduate or technician members - incoming ICE President Professor Anusha Shah is looking for her Future Leaders.
The President’s Future Leaders Scheme is an opportunity for up-and-coming engineers and technicians to gain an insight into the top of the profession and to boost their careers.
Successful candidates will work on strategic ICE projects, attend key institution events, meet senior industry professionals and politicians, be mentored by the president, and accompany her on regional visits.
Professor Shah will use her presidential year to focus on the ‘how’ when addressing the climate and nature emergencies that the planet is facing.
By building in resilience and bringing a nature-first mindset to projects from the outset, we can provide integrated solutions in redesigning infrastructure for the benefit of all society.
This can help ensure that no one is left behind and both people and nature can thrive.
The pursuit of climate adaption, resilience, and social equity is often separated from decarbonisation and the wider sustainability agenda.
But as global efforts pivot towards green energy and lower carbon solutions, there’s the opportunity to embed resilience within infrastructure projects, thus ensuring that adaption is on an equal footing with mitigation.
The key to this will be a systems design philosophy with a nature-first mindset, where we use what we have before building new.
Her Future Leaders will assist in her pursuit of changing mindsets and bringing the industry to a point where we move nature-positive and integrated solutions from novel to normal.
