ICE accredits various exams related to law and contracts. Find out more about them and how they could help your career.
Civil engineers are having to deal with more and more issues around contracts, so it's vital to understand how the law and practices work.
This exam is designed to improve your understanding of contracts. It covers contractual conditions, their legal framework and the management procedure you need to successfully complete projects.
There are three modules, and each has its own exam:
Module 1 Law Exam – is divided into Law of Contract, Law of Tort and Law of Evidence. When you pass it, you'll have a solid understanding of the legal framework in which the Conditions of Contracts sit.
Module 2 NEC Contract Management Exam – is aimed at professional service providers including architects, QS and engineers. It will concentrate on questions around the NEC family of contracts.
Module 3 Advanced NEC Contract Management Exam – covers a similar syllabus to Module 2 NEC module but is set at a much higher level and includes“sample” contractual provisions from familiar non-NEC contracts such as the ICC, FIDIC and JCT. It's aimed at experienced professional service providers.
