Tomorrow's Engineers

In your region

We carry out a range of activities with schools and colleges across the region to help inspire young people and promote civil engineering as a career choice.

If you’re an ICE North West member doing an educational visit or activity, do get in touch to see what resources we have available - contact us at [email protected].

Please note, all our volunteers must have valid DBS checks for STEM engagement.

We encourage ICE volunteers to be STEM registered - find out more about becoming a STEM Ambassador.

Joanna Bateman, an ICE North West volunteer, was inspired by an engineer and is now in the profession herself:

"I didn't know what civil engineering was until I spoke to someone at an open day, just before I started university. This really enthusiastic woman inspired me so much that I decided to find out more and eventually became a civil engineer myself. I love being a civil engineer and I want to inspire young people to get involved, in the same way as that engineer inspired me."

What do you need to do to become a civil engineer?

If you're interested in a university or college course in civil engineering, it's important to make sure that the course you choose is 'accredited'. This means that it meets the Engineering Council's quality and curriculum standards.

Having accredited academic qualifications will make it easier for you to become professionally qualified as a chartered engineer (CEng), incorporated engineer (IEng), or engineering technician (EngTech).

Use our course search to find accredited courses throughout the UK.
