At the heart of everything we do in the Bahrain is the volunteer-led, ICE Bahrain Local Committee. It invites ICE members to exchange knowledge and ideas, visit interesting engineering sites and to attend social events. It also works to raise the profile of ICE and civil engineering in the country.
ICE also has a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Bahrain Society of Engineers (SoE) which enables members of either organisation to attend meetings, conferences and use library facilities at members' rates.
The joint group arranges learned events, site visits and social events for ICE members based in Bahrain. This gives members the chance to meet other engineers, share knowledge and network.

Udhayakumar currently works as a Senior Project Manager for the Bahrain Marina Development Company, delivering the strategic Bahrain Marina Development Project.
He is a Chartered Engineer (CEng),a Fellow of the Institution (FICE), and a Fellow of Institution of Engineer India (FIE) with over two decades of extensive experience in project management, design, construction, and value engineering of notable projects across the Middle East and India.
He is already supporting ICE's mission by serving as an ICE Reviewer and Mentor, demonstrating his deep commitment to the next generation of engineers.

Prof. Ghada El-Mahdy is a professor of structural engineering at the British University in Egypt (BUE). Prof. El-Mahdy started her professional career as a structural engineer at Arab Consulting Engineers (Moharram-Bakhoum). In 1990 she went to Canada to study at the University of Windsor, Windsor, Ontario where she received her MSc and PhD degrees in structural stability.
In 1997 she returned to Egypt and worked as a senior structural engineer in Arab Consulting Engineers until she was appointed as a Researcher at the Housing and Building National Research Center (HBRC) in the Structures and Metallic Construction Research Institute in 2002.
At HBRC she served as a member of the code committee for the Egyptian Code of Practice for the Planning, Design, and Construction of Bridges and Elevated Intersections – Part 6 (Steel Bridges), and an associate editor for the HBRC journal, as well as the editor for the Design Aids for Steel Structures (Allowable Stress Design). She received her Chartered Engineer status from the Institution of Civil Engineers ICE in the UK in 2021 and is a registered chartered engineer and fellow in the Engineering Council in the UK.

Umair is a prominent leader in the field of civil engineering, currently serving as the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) Country Representative for Kuwait. With a solid academic and professional background, Umair brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to his role, promoting the growth and development of civil engineering practices within Kuwait.
Umair holds a First-Class Honours Degree and a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering both from The University of Manchester, UK, is a chartered civil engineer and a Fellow of the ICE.
In his capacity as the ICE Country Representative, Umair plays an important role in promoting the ICE's mission to support and represent civil engineers globally. He is instrumental in facilitating professional development opportunities, enhancing industry standards, and strengthening the network of civil engineers in Kuwait.
Umair’s professional journey is marked by significant contributions to major infrastructure projects across the Middle East and the UK. His leadership and technical acumen have been critical in delivering complex engineering challenges, driving progress and sustainability in the built environment.
Beyond his professional achievements, Umair is passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers. He actively engages with academic institutions and professional bodies to inspire and guide young engineers towards successful careers in civil engineering.

Dr. Lavinia Melilla CEng FICE is an accomplished civil and hydraulic engineer with over 21 years of experience. She holds a PhD in Hydraulic Engineering from La Sapienza University in Rome and is a Chartered Fellow of the UK Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE). Dr. Melilla is currently a Program Director and technical leader in Qatar, specializing in ports, marine, and water projects. Her expertise spans complex project management, business development, and engineering leadership across multiple sectors including transportation, infrastructure, and construction.
Throughout her career, Dr. Melilla has led high-profile projects globally, including roles as Project Director at Stantec in Qatar, Business Development Director at Arcadis, and Global Head of Ports, Marine, and Water at Bechtel. Her portfolio includes major projects such as Hamad Port, Lusail Towers, and Gatwick Airport's £0.8bn CAPEX project. Additionally, she has contributed to significant infrastructure initiatives in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
Dr. Melilla is a recognised thought leader and technical expert, having authored numerous publications on hydraulic engineering and project management. She also actively mentors chartership and fellowship candidates through the ICE and serves as a paper reviewer for international journals.
She is the ICE Representative for Qatar from 1 October 2024.

Steven Yule is the director of Intelligent Transformation for Jacobs in the UAE and an active Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, supporting the UAE Committee. He is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, a member of the Institute of Asset Management, and a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Engineers. Steven's career in civil engineering has seen him make impactful contributions globally, starting in the UK with Amey in Birmingham, focusing on structure design and asset management.
Steven's career took him to Qatar, where he supported the delivery of O&M and Asset Management Transformation services for Ashghal and became the country business development manager for Amey. Returning to the UK, he influenced technology integration in civil engineering projects, notably in the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) project, where he developed a Digital Twin Strategy and collaborated with the University of Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction.
In 2022, Steven returned to the Middle East as Jacobs' director of Intelligent Transformation in Dubai. He remains active in professional committees, organising knowledge-sharing sessions and promoting professional development as an ICE SCE. As the ICE country representative for the UAE, he continues to advocate for civil engineering, demonstrating his commitment to the field and his colleagues.
