For employers

For employers

The ICE has been working with employers for many years to support people, raise standards, and help the civil and infrastructure engineering industry move forward.

By building a relationship with the ICE, you can develop your workforce, strengthen your organisation’s reputation, and play an active role in shaping the future of the profession.

Professional qualifications

Our professional qualifications are recognised around the world. They show that our members – your employees - have the skills, knowledge and professionalism the industry expects.

By supporting staff to achieve EngTech, IEng or CEng, you show your commitment to learning, development and high standards.

We also provide guidance to help you set up and run an ICE Training Scheme, making it easier to support professional development in your organisation.

Senior members of your team can also progress to ICE Fellowship. This recognises the success they’ve earned and the experience they bring to your organisation.

Apprenticeships support

The ICE works with employers to develop and increase the range and number of civil engineering apprenticeships.

We are a registered End Point Assessment provider for employers and their apprentices. Apprentices can progress onto professional qualifications such as EngTech, or  IEng, creating clear career pathways within your organisation.

Knowledge and expertise

We have a global community of experienced professionals and industry leaders, who contribute to the latest industry knowledge and ideas.

They share this expertise through our lectures, conferences, courses, publications and journals, to enable your employees to stay up-to-date with the latest technical and commercial developments. This keeps your organisation at the forefront of civil engineering innovation.

How does employing ICE members help my business?

Supporting your engineers and technicians to become qualified shows you’re committed to their personal and professional development.

Technicians who want to progress further can go on to achieve incorporated (IEng), and in some cases, Chartered Engineer (CEng) qualifications.

Put simply, working with the ICE helps you to:

  • Attract and retain skilled employees
  • Develop future leaders
  • Raise professional and technical standards
  • Strengthen bids and tenders with a qualified workforce

A professionally qualified team helps your organisation stand out, for example, when bidding for new work.

Supporting the community

ICE members volunteer across the UK and around the world.

They inspire young people, represent local views in ICE member groups and sit on committees.

This volunteer work helps them develop new skills which can benefit their employers.

In particular, by registering as ICE STEM 'ambassadors', our volunteers receive training and resources to use with students as they contribute to growing the future pipeline of engineers.

Working with young people is rewarding and great for CPD. It's also really important for the future of the industry. However, it can only be done with your support.

Get involved

Whether you want to support professional qualifications, apprenticeships, knowledge sharing or community engagement, the ICE can work with you.
