Consultant/director, Water Acumen

"I am passionate about strengthening the voice of our international members, ensuring that every member feels represented and supported… If elected, I will continue to advocate for global inclusivity, professional excellence, and initiatives that support all members."

I am passionate about strengthening the voice of our international members, ensuring that every member feels represented and supported. Joining as a student over 40 years ago, I understand the challenges and aspirations of engineers at every stage of their careers. Now only working part-time, I have time to commit to the role.

As the current Council member, I successfully championed the creation of two new international seats, giving Australasia its own representation for the first time. I actively seek to inspire the next generation of engineers and am currently working to establish a charitable trust to formalise the Bridge to Schools programme in New Zealand.

My commitment to professionalism and member engagement extends beyond governance. I volunteer as a reviewer, review auditor, policy fellow, and member of the Professionalism Panel and currently serve as a Trustee of the ICE Benevolent Fund. Outside ICE, I serve as a Board Member for Citizens Advice Bureau and sit on the University of Auckland GSE Advisory Board. I am a Chartered Member of the IoD NZ and a Fellow of both ICE and Engineering NZ.

If elected, I will continue to advocate for global inclusivity, professional excellence, and initiatives that support all members.

Director/owner, MCE (Management Commercial Engineering Pty Ltd)

"… If elected… I will bring energy, international perspective, governance experience and a proven record of delivery to strengthen ICE’s relevance, expand opportunities for members, empower volunteers and promote the impact of civil engineers across Australasia."

I have seen first-hand how ICE can change careers, raise standards and strengthen our profession, which is why I am standing for Council. I am a Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of ICE with nearly 25 years’ experience delivering major infrastructure across Australia and the UK. I have led multidisciplinary teams on rail, metro, road and public infrastructure programmes, founded and grown a successful infrastructure advisory business, and served ICE as Asia Pacific Council member, Trustee, NSW Chair, reviewer and mentor.

If elected, I will be a strong voice for Australasia and a constructive voice for the Institution as a whole. I will work to ensure the views of members in Australia and New Zealand are heard at Council and reflected in ICE governance, policy and international engagement. I will champion stronger member engagement, wider sharing of practical knowledge, and greater opportunities for connection and professional development, including another ICE Australasian Conference.

Members want more than representation; we want action, advocacy and outcomes. I will bring energy, international perspective, governance experience and a proven record of delivery to strengthen ICE’s relevance, expand opportunities for members, empower volunteers and promote the impact of civil engineers across Australasia.

I have over 25 years’ experience delivering major infrastructure projects across Southeast Asia, the UK, and Australia, with project portfolios exceeding USD $10 billion. My commitment has been to deliver sustainable and resilient infrastructure outcomes that create long-term value for society.

Since relocating to Malaysia in 2017, I have been involved in establishing and strengthening ICE’s presence in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia. I bring a strong regional network and a clear understanding of the opportunities and challenges shaping infrastructure delivery in Southeast Asia.

If elected, I will contribute to Council by supporting ICE’s continued importance as a global knowledge leader, strengthening engagement, enhancing its contribution to infrastructure policy and practice, and ensuring that international perspectives are reflected in shaping the Institution’s future.

Geotechnical Engineer, Retired from full-time employment

"… ICE membership in Southeast Asia has been steadily shrinking, so one of my primary aims in becoming an ICE Council Member would be to represent the needs of our Fellows and Members throughout the region…"

I am a geotechnical engineer, living and working in Southeast Asia for 38 years of my career, in Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. I have travelled extensively to most other countries within the region, so I have a good understanding of the culture and priorities throughout Southeast Asia.

I joined ICE in 1973 and have been involved in the activities of the ICE Jakarta Local Association since moving to Indonesia in 1993. I have been a committee member for more than 30 years, including positions of Secretary, Treasurer and Chairman. I helped establish a Student Chapter in 2013 which remains active today. I became ICE Country Representative for Indonesia in 2005, then Chairman of the Southeast Asian committee in 2021.

ICE membership in Southeast Asia has been steadily shrinking, so one of my primary aims in becoming an ICE Council Member would be to represent the needs of our Fellows and Members throughout the region. Our Graduate membership (mostly in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei) has remained consistent over recent years, so I would want to ensure that their IPD and path to their Professional Review are well supported – the Graduates represent the source of our future membership in Southeast Asia.
