Gráinne Murray BEng MSc CEng MICE

Delivery manager Midlands Hub, Environment Agency

“If elected to the council I intend to represent the views of ICE members in my region and bring awareness of local issues to the council. I will also work with our regional committee and local branches to deliver the ICE’s vision and strategic direction.”

I am a civil engineer who has lived in the East Midlands since 1999 when I left Northern Ireland to join the Severn Trent Water Ltd Graduate Development Programme. I became a Chartered Civil Engineer in 2005 and I have been the Honorary Secretary of the ICE East Midlands Regional Committee and a member of the ICE East Midlands Regional Executive Board since 2015.

I began working at the Environment Agency in 2022 as the EA delivery manager for the Midlands Hub in the Major Projects and Progamme Delivery team. I am passionate about sustainable development and delivery of low carbon projects to better protect communities in the Midlands.

If elected to the council I intend to represent the views of ICE members in my region and bring awareness of local issues to the council. Jonathon Simons CEng MICE

Principal engineer, AECOM

“With my fresh perspective and digital expertise, I will promote a progressive digital future for the ICE and drive our industry forward to become more inclusive and representative”.

I have been a keen member and advocate of the ICE since graduating from the University of Nottingham (MEng). Prior to becoming chartered in 2023, I was an active and leading member of the regional and national ICE GSNet, holding various committee roles for 10 years.

Within the East Midlands, I have supported, created and held many events for the ECNET, E&I and other ICE Committees. In 2022 and 2023 I was awarded STEM Ambassador of the Year for the East Midlands. I also actively engage with the Regional and National E&I Committee and other SIG’s such as the Transport PIN.

I am currently a principal engineer as well as regional digital lead and an approved ICE mentor, DE and SCE. I actively lead, encourage and promote the professional development of my reports and trainees within the office, linking ICE attributes with business and personal goals.

With my fresh perspective and digital expertise, I will promote a progressive digital future for the ICE and drive our industry forward to become more inclusive and representative. I would be honoured to have the opportunity to contribute to the council and support the strategic direction of such a historic and learned institution.

Rhiannon Evans BA (Hons) BEng IEng MICE

Regional manager (West Midlands), Active Travel England

“I am an active ICE volunteer, on ICE West Midlands Regional and National committees. As the Early Careers Network (ECNet) national representative for ECNet West Midlands in 2020/21, I attended local and national meetings to share ideas and initiatives between the two groups”

I began a Civil Engineering Apprenticeship in 2017 and gained experience working for Atkins and AECOM, while completing a part-time degree at Coventry University. I recently gained IEng MICE status by completing the apprenticeship End Point Assessment.

I am an active ICE volunteer, on ICE West Midlands Regional and National committees. As the Early Careers Network (ECNet) national representative for ECNet West Midlands in 2020/21, I attended local and national meetings to share ideas and initiatives between the two groups.

In 2021, I became the ECNet representative on the Membership Committee working with senior stakeholders within ICE. I was an advocate of the name change from ‘Graduates and Students Committee’ to ‘ECNet’ because it is a more inclusive description for apprentices and younger technicians.

I am currently employed by Active Travel England as the West Midlands regional manager. My role allows me to pursue a keen interest in active travel infrastructure and combine my technical interests and commitment to delivering on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

If elected I want to use my role on council to raise awareness of apprentices and ensure that the views of the West Midlands members are represented nationally.

The Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) is the cornerstone of my profession as a civil engineer, and I am proud to be a Fellow. I joined as a student member in 1989 and became a Fellow in 2016. I was committee Chair in Northern Ireland (NI) in 2021-2022 and am the NI representative on the Fairness Inclusion and Respect (FIR) Committee. John Bridgeman BEng MSc PhD FICE FCIWEM FIMA CEng CSci

JW Hughes chair in engineering, head of department of civil and environmental engineering, University of Liverpool

“As an academic I am passionate about providing the next generation of civil engineers with the skills to develop tomorrow’s towns and cities, while preserving and enhancing the environment.”

I am fortunate to have experienced two careers as a civil engineer, firstly as a practising water engineer and subsequently as a research-active academic. I spent 16 years working in the water industry, primarily with Severn Trent Water, where I managed a capital budget of £600M developing water treatment and distribution schemes. In 2005, I moved to academia and am now head of civil and environmental engineering at the University of Liverpool.

I sat on the institution's expert Water Panel from 2005 to 2016, and on the Fellowship Panel from 2018 to 2021. I was a Member of the Editorial Panel of ICE Proceedings - Water Management from 2007 to 2012. I am now an active member of the North West Regional Committee.

As an academic I am passionate about providing the next generation of civil engineers with the skills to develop tomorrow’s towns and cities, while preserving and enhancing the environment. As a researcher, I have a keen interest in embedding innovation in civil engineering. ICE has a key role to play in the net zero infrastructure debate. If elected, I would bring my industry and academic leadership experience to support and enhance that debate whilst also giving a voice to the North West.

“If elected to council I would strive to ensure the views of Members are represented,… help translate the work of ICE into the daily lives of the communities it serves .”

I joined the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) in 2012 as a Graduate Member while studying River and Coastal Engineering, before moving into the highways and transport sector and becoming an Incorporated Engineer in 2019. I am looking to draw on this experience and become the South West representative for Council.

I am a technical director with WSP where I provide advisory services to public sector clients in areas such as policy, strategy, procurement and decarbonisation.
