Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation (MEICA) Aspects of Dams, London

Watch this event

The purpose of this evening meeting is to share current knowledge and best practice pertaining to the application of MEICA-related equipment to the dams and reservoirs industry.  The meeting will be of interest to Inspecting Engineers, Supervising Engineers, Consultants, Clients, Dam Owners and Contractors, providing an improved understanding of the major issues involved in the design, construction, installation, operation and maintenance of MEICA assets such as hydraulic steel structures.
The meeting will cover the following aspects:
•              Critical information that reservoir engineers should know or be aware of in relation to MEICA assets;
•              When and how reservoir engineers should seek expert MEICA advice;
•              Specific risks that reservoir engineers should be aware of associated with MEICA assets;
•              Management and maintenance of MEICA assets for long-term reliable operation;
•              Life expectancy of MEICA assets;
•              Overview of the Reliability Assessment process for MEICA assets.
The content of this evening meeting will be largely taken from the technical workshop run by the authors during the BDS Conference in Swansea (September 2018)
Admission free | Teas available from 5.30pm

Ken Grubb

Ken is a Consultant Technical Director at KGAL Consulting Engineers with over 40 years of experience designing, constructing, installing and commissioning hydromechanical machinery.
He has a vast amount of experience across a wide range of types of hydraulic steel structures and industries, including commercial ports and harbours, marinas, navigable waterways, flood defence and hydropower installations.
Ken plays an active role in the consideration of risk and safety in relation to machinery design and has run independent courses, lecturing on the European Union’s Machinery’s Directives and their practical implementation.
He is the UKs appointed representative on the ICOLD Hydromechanical Equipment technical committee.

Russ Digby

Russ is the Regional Managing Director of KGAL Consulting Engineers with over 34 years of post- graduate experience in many aspects of the design of hydraulic steel structures including mechanical, electrical, and oil hydraulic engineering.
His area of specialism relates to the rehabilitation of existing hydro-mechanical equipment, including all types of water control structures, temporary enabling works, hazard and reliability assessments, conditional inspections, specialist flow calculations and structural analysis.
He has written several technical papers on topics such as the rehabilitation of hydro-mechanical equipment and gate reliability and presented them at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the British Dam Society and various flood defence and hydropower conferences.
Russ is a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and has provided specialist input on numerous projects located all over the world. He is approved by the Norwegian Water Directorate (NVE) to design watercourse structures.
