This event is always one of the civil engineering highlights in the north-east of Scotland. This year guest of honour will be the ICE Director General Dr Janet Young and the main event speaker will be comedian Bruce Fumey.

Tickets are £70.00 including VAT. Bookings can be made on a tables of 8 or 10 basis but members wanting individual tickets or smaller numbers should feel free and the organisers will organise accordingly.

As always, a raffle will be held to support a local charity and this years recipient will be Charlie House who are busy fundraising for their Big Build project.

The Aberdeen Association of Civil Engineers was incorporated on the 14th December 1900 and became an Associated Society of the Institution of Civil Engineers in October 1987. We work as the North East of Scotland Branch of the Institution of Civil Engineers to develop and share knowledge of Civil Engineering and welcome those interested in Civil Engineering to our presentation evenings, STEM volunteer opportunities and annual dinner.

Janet Young

Dr Janet Young joined the ICE as director general and secretary in January 2023.

She has extensive experience in the built environment sector, having most recently worked in the Cabinet Office where she was head of the Government Property Profession, leading the profession and driving the agenda for the property and estates function.

She has also been global director of estates for the British Council, director of estates for the Ministry of Justice, and head of asset management in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

She is a Major Projects Leadership Academy graduate of the Saïd Business School, and a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, Institution of Royal Engineers, and Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Her PhD, Towards Zero Energy Buildings, looked at the challenges and solutions for low carbon and energy developments.

Bruce Fumey

Bruce Fummey hails from Perth and has in his time been a physics teacher, a training consultant and a financial adviser, but started performing comedy in 2004. In that time he’s run comedy clubs, performed at festivals, comedy clubs and dinners on three continents, had sell out Fringe runs, he’s been nominated for Scottish Comedy Awards, Australian fringe awards and been named Scottish Comedian of the year. More recently he’s become known for his Scotland History Tours YouTube channel and film and TV appearances such as The Lost King, Take a Hike, The Wedding and more.
