Overview

The Cheddar 2 scheme is one of over 20 strategic resource options that are being looked at nationally to address a significant predicted deficit in water supply in the next 25 years.

Water companies are committed to reducing leakage and are trying to lower the average consumption of water per household by promoting water efficiency. However, this will not on its own compensate for the impact of the Water Framework Directive on reducing abstraction from key water sources, increased housing and the growing demand for water from industrial users, including data centres.

Projected shortfalls are predicted to be in the order of 5000 million litres per day and require far more innovative solutions and greater collaboration between water companies, regulators and environmental bodies.

A new reservoir near Cheddar is one of the three flagship projects being undertaken by West Country Water and Environment (WCWE) to secure water resources across the region for generations to come.

In this talk, water and reservoir experts, Julian Welbank and Martin Wood will discuss the Cheddar 2 reservoir strategic resource option.

Join the ICE Taunton City Club to discover what the scheme involves, why it's needed and the benefits of the project.
