This year’s theme, Engineering Intelligence, shines a spotlight on the insight, creativity, and problem‑solving skills women can bring to engineering and the critical role these play in shaping a smarter, more inclusive future.
As part of INWED, a global campaign dedicated to raising the profile of women in engineering, this event aims to inspire the next generation to consider a career in the profession. With women currently representing only around 16% of engineers in the UK, initiatives like INWED remain vital in improving visibility, representation and driving meaningful change.
During this event, female members of ICE ECNet West Midlands will share their personal journeys into engineering, reflecting on their experiences, challenges and key lessons learned.

Serena is a senior engineer working in the urban highways team at Arcadis in Birmingham. She has worked in the highways transportation sector since graduation and prior to this was an ICE QUEST Undergraduate Scholar.
Serena has experience in the design and delivery management of active travel, bus rapid transit, park and ride design and corridor and junction improvement schemes. She has worked on projects across the United Kingdom, particularly in the West Midlands and has also worked internationally in Dublin.

This course is designed to give developing professionals a strong foundation in sustainable engineering, equipping them with the knowledge and practical skills to effectively integrate sustainability into their work.

An engaging presentation that challenges that structural concrete design is satisfactory provided it complies with codes of practice. Despite code compliance, designs may be in an insufficient condition for acceptable concrete performance.
