Overview

Forming part of the ongoing knowledge transfer series, this lecture focuses on the critical interface between fire safety engineers and other civil engineering disciplines.

Focusing on the fire safety design for a student residential building intending to operate under multiple regimes, you will learn the influence of fire safety on structural design, building services, materials and architectural decisions. Through case studies and recent research, the session will explore BS 9991:2024 guidance and demonstrate the value of early interdisciplinary coordination and the impact it has on safety, compliance, and project efficiency.

The event is aimed at engineers and designers looking to strengthen their understanding of fire safety’s role within integrated project delivery.

Raluca Ciofu

Raluca is a fire engineer with Arup. She graduated with a MEng Structural and Fire Safety engineering from The University of Edinburgh in 2020 and joined the fire industry straight away.

She has worked on a range of project types, including leisure, office, residential, commercial, custodial and industrial. Raluca enjoys her job the most when she is involved in projects at an early stage, which enables her to implement fire safety into the architect's design aspirations, as well as to ensure that the design is coordinated on all fronts.
