Overview

In this talk, Mr Millis will provide an accessible introduction to the wide range of natural terrain hazards that exist in Hong Kong, including landslides, debris flows and rockfalls on steep hillsides.

He will outline the institutional and technical frameworks through which these hazards are systematically identified, assessed, prioritised and mitigated by engineers and regulators.

The presentation will also highlight recent practical innovations that are being adopted to improve the accuracy, efficiency and reliability of hazard prediction, monitoring and design measures, thereby strengthening overall risk management and the long‑term resilience of Hong Kong’s built environment against natural hazards.

Note:

  • Registration will be confirmed on a first-come-first-served basis, with priority given to ICE HKA members.
  • Only successful applicants will receive a confirmation e-mail.
  • Attendance certificates will be provided after 2 weeks of the event only if attendees attend the whole event.
