Harnessing innovation and sharing insights across our diverse, international team to create a tomorrow’s world that's cleaner, greener and safer.
Join Guy Dunscombe MEng CEng FICE and Mayank Jaiswal CEng MIStructE for a CPD session on constructability‑led bridge design, drawing on the Oxford Station Botley Road Bridge project.
This CPD event presents a constructability‑led design approach adopted for the Oxford Botley Road Bridge, delivered as part of the Oxford Station Phase 2 Improvements within a live and highly constrained rail environment. The project required careful integration of structural, construction, and durability considerations to enable safe and efficient delivery within strict rail possession time constraints.
The session will demonstrate how early constructability considerations influenced key design decisions, including structural form selection, detailing strategies, durability provisions, and sequencing of works. Particular focus will be given to the use of modern methods of construction and innovative design solutions to achieve rapid construction during limited rail possessions while maintaining long‑term asset performance.
The presentation will share practical lessons learned from working in a complex urban setting characterised by multiple stakeholders, limited access, and programme‑critical constraints. This CPD is aimed at engineers involved in the design and delivery of bridge and rail infrastructure projects and will be relevant to both early‑career and experienced professionals.
