Overview

This technical talk introduces the broad range of engineering disciplines within civil engineering and highlights their role in shaping safe, efficient, and sustainable infrastructure in Malaysia. It is designed to provide early-career engineers with a clearer understanding of the profession, its specialisations, and the opportunities available across the industry.

Delivered by Ir. Richard Wong, the session will draw on extensive practical experience across both local and international projects. It will explore key areas of practice including structural engineering, transportation and highways, infrastructure development, environmental engineering, and road safety. Particular attention will be given to the growing importance of Road Safety Audits and the responsibilities of engineers in reducing road risks through better planning, design, and operation.

The talk will also provide professional insights into career development, industry expectations, and the skills required to progress within the engineering sector. Attendees will gain valuable perspective on how different civil engineering disciplines contribute to society and how young engineers can position themselves for future success.
