Book nowOverview
The Bridgwater Tidal Barrier scheme is a flood protection initiative designed to reduce flood risk by constructing a tidal surge barrier and associated downstream defences.
With a design life of 100 years, the scheme will not only protect the community but create an environmental corridor featuring wetlands and heritage elements, linking both sides if the river.
Managed by the Environment Agency and Somerset Council, with support from the Somerset Rivers Authority, the scheme forms a key part of Somerset’s 20-year Action Plan, accelerated after the devastating floods of 2013 and 2014.
Pre-booking is essential as capacity for the site visit is limited to twenty five.
Attendees will be notified of exact details for assembly points and car parking arrangements nearer the time. Due to construction activities on the site, viewing can be from either bank of the River Parrett and each side has its own arrangements. No PPE is required but stout footwear and weather-appropriate clothing should be worn.
