Overview

This interactive workshop is designed for early career civil engineers to explore how ethics applies in everyday engineering practice. Led by Lauren Luck from the ICE Ethics Committee, the session will introduce the ICE Code of Conduct and its role in guiding professional behaviour and decision-making.

You'll gain insight into how ethical principles influence real-world infrastructure projects, including the potential consequences of ethical and unethical decisions. The session will highlight the importance of integrity, responsibility and accountability in engineering practice.

A key feature of the workshop is a collaborative activity where you will work in a small group to analyse realistic industry scenarios. These scenarios will challenge you to consider competing priorities such as safety, programme pressures, environmental responsibility and conflicts of interest, encouraging discussion and reflection.

The session aims to empower you to recognise ethical challenges, understand your professional responsibilities and feel confident in applying the ICE Code of Conduct in your day-to-day work.
