Overview

Tung Chung New Town Extension (TCNTE) expands on the eastern and western flanks of the existing Tung Chung New Town (TCNT). It delivers essential infrastructure—such as roads, drainage, sewerage, waterworks, and other engineering works—to support the housing and development needs of Tung Chung. Under TCNTE, the project will provide around 64,800 residential flats for a population of about 182,000, together with commercial and hospitality development comprising approximately 500,000 square metres of gross floor area (GFA) for office use, 327,000 m² of GFA for retail use, and 50,000 m² of GFA for hotel use.

Through this visit, participants will gain insight into the considerations, challenges, and solutions involved in constructing TCNTE (East). The programme includes a guided tour to learn about the major engineering works within TCNTE (East), followed by a guided site walk where participants will be introduced to the unconventional 1.7 km Common Utility Tunnel, which carries multiple utility lines in an extensive shared corridor. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of how this engineering design improves maintenance efficiency in TCNT.
