The ICE London Early Careers Network (ECNet) represents all graduate, student, technician and apprentice members of the ICE working or studying in the nation's capital. Each month the network hosts a meeting focused on a particular aspect of civil engineering, combining talks from guest speakers, updates from the committee and progress against its objectives, with time to network with like-minded engineers before and after.
September's meeting opens the 2026-27 committee year and is designed for anyone curious about taking a more active role in the institution. Every position available on the incoming committee will be introduced by the member who currently holds it, explaining what the role involves, the realistic time commitment, the skills it develops and how that experience supports professional development and progression towards professional review.
Attendees will also hear how the network's strategic groups deliver their programme across sustainability, diversity and inclusion, membership, knowledge and informing opinion, alongside chair updates and a look ahead to the events planned for the year. The evening is an opportunity to understand how the network is run, to shape what it delivers next and to meet the wider committee informally.
The format is deliberately informal: short introductions from each committee member, an open question and answer session on how to apply and what to expect, and networking either side of the meeting.
No prior committee experience is required and everyone is welcome, whether attending for the first time or returning from previous years.
Further information is available through the network's LinkedIn and Instagram accounts.

A very Scilly problem: using biomimicry to inform climate resilient infrastructure
Whilst engineers struggle to adapt infrastructure for a changing climate, nature is already surviving and thriving in these conditions. Using a biomimicry approach, this presentation explores how organisms on the Isles of Scilly could inform climate resilience in the UK.
