Overview

This webinar will present lessons from the delivery of the Source of the Nile Bridge, Uganda’s first cable-stayed bridge. It will examine the technical and delivery challenges encountered on the project, including structural form validation, constructability, quality assurance, interface management, and decision-making under site conditions.

The session will also explore the role of the employer’s representative on the Source of the Nile Bridge project, particularly in an emerging-economy context, where the engineer had to balance technical integrity, contractual obligations, risk, programme, and stakeholder expectations. Special attention will be given to how design review, supervision, and contract management interact to support project success, not just project delivery.

The webinar will draw on real-world project experience from one of Uganda’s landmark bridges, offering insights relevant to bridge engineers, design reviewers, site supervisors, employers’ own representatives, and project managers involved in complex infrastructure delivery, especially in emerging economies and the Global South.
