This year's newly launched People's Choice Award has proved a massive hit across all of ICE's 12 regions.

Over 16,700 of People's Choice votes were cast right up to the 30 November deadline.

The ultimate People' Choice Award winner will be announced in January. They will receive a specially commissioned People's Choice trophy to mark their success.

The People's Choice Award comprises 12 nominated civil engineering projects, each of which has already won their own local regional award. Distinct from other industry awards, the voting focused on asking the general public to vote for their favourite civil engineering project.

Voting took place via the ICE website which saw record visitor numbers during the voting period.

ICE Director of Regions Wendy Blundell has promised the People's Choice Award will become an annual award fixture.

"We have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic response to the People's Choice Award from across the UK," she says.

"All the entrants were already winners in their own region and as a whole represent civil engineering at its very best. Many people who previously knew nothing about civil engineering, responded to our social media posts, went to our website, looked at the projects and then voted."

The Nikon Coolpix A10 camera was won by voter Anna Padmore.
