The ICE Council discussed the 2025 plan and CPD consultation results, and got the outcome of the 2024 membership ballot.
As always, council kicked off the day with two strategy sessions.
The first looked at how contracts can create frameworks to accelerate decarbonisation of infrastructure and increase the uptake of nature-positive solutions.
The second, an inspiring presentation by this year’s President’s Future Leaders on the results of their research into the challenges and opportunities of making nature-positive solutions mainstream.
They also presented an idea for a platform to support the development of nature-positive infrastructure solutions with an emphasis on connecting the financial professionals to the built environment community.
CPD consultation
Thank you to all those members that completed the CPD consultation.
It was a very helpful exercise to get views and agreement on the subject of which topics should form part of mandatory CPD.
Council members had a good discussion on potential topics with a general consensus that the content should cover topics including safety and risk management, professional conduct and climate and nature awareness.
The vice president for the learning society and director for engineering knowledge will use the feedback to devise next steps.
ICE 2025 plan
The director general and secretary, Janet Young, provided the council with an overview of the draft 2025 plan, which had been reviewed by trustees at their last board meeting.
The plan is in line with the 2020-2025 strategy and addresses strategic themes that will contribute to achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals for water, transport and energy:
- Decarbonisation
- Nature and resilience
- Expertise in delivery
Council was asked to share the plan with their committees to aid with committee planning for 2025.
The budget for the plan will be discussed and agreed by trustees later this year, with the finalised plan shared shortly after.
ICE updates
The ICE continues to strive to improve member engagement, one key way will be through improved IT systems.
The group finance director provided council with an overview of the current digital strategy.
The strategy focuses on ensuring internal processes are up to date, while also looking ahead to how member services can be improved over time, including updates to the CRM and the ICE website.
As an organisation that is working to put sustainability at the heart of global infrastructure, the ICE needs to ensure it is walking the walk.
Over the past few months, the executive team and trustee for decarbonisation have been working with Useful Projects to assess the ICE Group’s carbon footprint.
Useful Projects provided council with an update on the progress made so far in terms of determining the ICE Group’s carbon impact and laid out some initial ideas for how it can be reduced going forward.
