Trustees signed off the 2025 budget and discussed plans for the 2025-2030 ICE strategy.
It was a pleasure to kick off the first meeting of my presidential term by welcoming Dr Ohis Ilalokhoin, our new trustee for the Learning Society.
2025 budget
Having approved the 2025 plan at our last meeting, the ICE group finance director presented the final 2024 forecast and budget for 2025 which was approved by trustees.
Strategy review
The director general and secretary talked us through the proposed plans for next year’s strategy review.
This included the ways in which the ICE Council and committees will be able to share their input.
We will be using the council sessions in December to gather input from council about their vision for the future of the ICE and the impact we can have as an institution.
Similarly, committees will be asked to feed any suggestions into their trustee representatives, who will then share that input with the wider team.
All of this will be collated ahead of the trustee strategy day in February, where trustees will review all of the feedback and decide the way forward.
Carbon management plan
The trustees welcomed a final presentation on the carbon management plan, which will now be enacted across the organisation.
The ICE’s chief operating officer will be leading on a good deal of this work as the vast majority of the ICE’s carbon footprint comes One Great George Street (OGGS) as a venue.
The plan that has been produced is robust and I am delighted to see the ICE taking a leadership role in first understanding its carbon impact and then undertaking the measures necessary to reduce it.
Review of 2024
The director general and secretary provided a brief overview of the year to date.
Despite it being another busy year, most projects were on track to be delivered as we head into the final months of the year.
With the strategy review alongside the delivery of the 2025 ICE plan, next year is likely to be just as busy, if not busier.
I want to pass on my thanks to all of the staff and members, trustees and partners who have worked hard to make 2024 a success for the ICE.
I very much look forward to working with you all in the coming year.
