This roundtable, chaired by ICE’s President Rachel Skinner, focused on what should be in the second National Infrastructure Assessment, and was led by ICE Past President Sir John Armitt and James Heath, chair and CEO of the National Infrastructure Commission (NIC), respectively.
Background
Between the first UK National Infrastructure Assessment and today, a lot has changed in society, not just in the UK but around the world.
The forthcoming second assessment (NIA2) will need to have a firm grip on those changes to ensure that infrastructure development meets societal needs.
That process starts with a new Baseline Assessment, which will set out the current state of national infrastructure alongside key themes and challenges that the NIC proposes to address in NIA2, from the NIC this autumn.
This event, held under the Chatham House Rule, sought to support the NIC’s work on its Baseline Assessment by convening a discussion on the core considerations for NIA2.
