Management Expert panel

The panel is a joint panel between the ICE and the Chartered Institute of Civil Engineering Surveyors (CICES). It works to help and improve management of the built environment.

It does this through the capture and sharing of knowledge and best practice, establishing standards, and by working with other external bodies.

What are we working on?

The Management panel has its own programme of work which focuses on different areas. These include:

  1. Risk management (Enterprise risk and Project risk),
The joint group, aligning the ICE with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries look at all elements of risk; awareness, avoidance and mitigation. They published Major infrastructure projects: Key front-end issues which contains case studies and a list of crucial points for deep thinking, to make a project a success.
  2. Asset management

The panel also has work streams on Government Soft Landings, the publication of the Risk Analysis and Management for Projects (RAMP) book, and follow up Risk work, and the further documents to add to the asset management suite.

We are working with other professional bodies to develop tools for Building Information Modelling (BIM), helping to develop international construction standards and are looking at ways to improve the level of recognition afforded to Project Management.

The Asset management subgroup have produced three documents in a suite designed to raise awareness and increase whole-life thinking in infrastructure:

The Panel actively supports the MERIT competition. Watch a video of the MERIT 2016 final and view a report from the 2015 final.
