ICE is home to an enormous variety of civil engineering content, including many thousands of books and articles published by the society since 1836. Here you can find out more about the ICE Library, ICE Publishing’s Virtual Library and the ICE Image Library.

The ICE Library

Our library is home to the world's largest dedicated collection of civil engineering materials.

If you're an ICE member, wherever you are in the world you can search our catalogue and explore over 130,000 publications.

As well as printed books and journals, the library also offers access to a number of digital services including e-books and advanced search tools.

ICE members of all grades can borrow up to three items in person or by post.

The loan period is three weeks. Unless requested by another user, you can renew online via the MyLibrary service. You can return a book in person or by post.

If we don't have the book you need, we can try to request it from another engineering institution or the British Library (a charge may be levied).

ICE Publishing - journals and books

As well as being home to the world's largest collection of civil engineering books, ICE also hosts a dedicated publishing arm. ICE Publishing is the world's leading publisher of specialist civil engineering materials including books and dedicated journals. Our Virtual Library is home to thousands of articles and books covering every aspect of civil engineering. ICE members enjoy major discounts on many of our journals.

ICE's library is home to one of the world's largest collections of civil engineering materials. We've also built up a huge collection of images chronicling the history of civil engineering. From sketches of some of the most famous structures in the UK and abroad, to portraits of famous civil engineers. Many of these images are available for free, whilst we also provide access to high resolution versions on a per request basis.
