Students will benefit recording experience whilst in further or higher education:

Start ICE training ahead of time, learning the mechanism while you are still in education.
Record information on your achievements reducing thé chance of forgetting them.
Show commitment to potential employers (and something to discuss at an interview!).
Familiarise with the system before leaving eductation.
Once you have a formal ICE mentor/SCE assigned, you can easily transfer data on IPD online forms.
