About this event

At the 2019 event attendees will hear the keynote address from Mr. Paul Darling OBE QC of 39 Essex Chambers on ‘Unenforceable adjudication decisions? How do these rare beasts come about?’

Claire Packman of 4 Pump Court will explain ‘What’s new in the law for adjudicators?’

Lindy Patterson QC will discuss ‘Tools for dispute avoidance and resolution under NEC4’ and Iain Drummond of Shepherd & Wedderburn will describe, ‘NEC Adjudicators: what parties and representatives want”.

After lunch, delegates will benefit from attending two highly focused workshop sessions:

  • ‘The awarding of interest and the allocation of costs’ presented by Robin Gupta
The workshop will look at Adjudicator’s jurisdiction to award interest; contractual rates; The Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998; what constitutes a “substantial remedy”.
  • Assessment of Compensation Events, Groping in the Dark; When an agreement is not an agreement.
    Presented by Bill Edwards.

The workshop will be a mixture of presentations and delegate participation on the assessment of compensation events following recent judicial decisions in Northern Ireland and the TCC. The workshop will include several scenarios where participants will be asked to take decisions in the role of ECC Project Manager and / or Contractor.
