Overview

Belfast Grand Central Station is a transport led regeneration project, funded by the Department for Infrastructure, which will see the transformation of the 8-hectare city centre site, delivering a modern, high quality integrated transport hub.

Offering greater capacity with an increase to 26 bus stands, 8 railway platforms, enhanced walking and cycling connectivity, and greater comfort and accessibility. When completed Belfast Grand Central Station will be the largest integrated transport facility on the island of Ireland.

With construction works expecting to continue until 2025, this webinar will consider the Main Works phase of the project including the design development and construction progress.

The multimodal station building, being constructed as part of the Main Works, will have a ground floor concourse area of 10,000 sq m. The building has a steel frame with a distinctive sawtooth roof profile.

The principal façades are glazed, with reinforced concrete spine walls forming the other facades and also providing stability to the structure. To date more than 1400 piles have been installed and construction of the spine walls is progressing. Steelwork will start arriving on site before the end of the year.
