Overview
The Clifton Suspension Bridge Hard Hat Tour is a one - hour experience which begins at the Clifton Suspension Bridge Museum on the Leigh Woods side of the bridge.
Join the knowledgeable guides on a historical tour through two of the 12 vaulted chambers inside the Leigh Woods abutment. The tour will begin above, but once we’ve climbed inside, the guide will share some of the more interesting features and explain why it took until 2002 for the Clifton Suspension Bridge vaults to be rediscovered.
Don a hard hat, descend into the vaults, and take a look for yourself.
Additional information
- This tour includes climbing a vertical ladder and passing through a low corridor. Please ensure that you are physically capable of doing so.
- There is a minimum height limit of 1.2m.
- Please wear sturdy shoes with good grip such as hiking boots or trainers. You will not be allowed to join the tour in heels or open - toed shoes.
- Please ensure that any camera, phone, or device you bring will fit in your pocket or bag so that you have two hands free to climb the ladder.
- Only small rucksack type bags worn over both shoulders or bags with cross - body straps will be permitted inside the vaults. Large bags, handbags, umbrellas and so on can be stored securely at the Visitor Centre during your tour.
- Be aware that the vaults can be wet and/or muddy inside, particularly after heavy rain. Please wear suitable clothing and ensure that cameras or mobile phones are protected from the calcite saturated water which may fall from the ceiling.
After the tour, we will be heading to The White Lion for an informal networking session. Whether you are joining us for the tour or the networking only, all are welcome at The White Lion from 5:30pm onwards.
Tour spaces are limited to 15 attendees and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. If the tour is fully booked, you will be added to the waiting list and contacted should a place become available. If you are no longer able to attend, we would greatly appreciate you letting us know in advance so that the place can be offered to someone else.
Networking venue: The White Lion, Avon Gorge Hotel, Sion Hill, Clifton, Bristol BS8 4LD
If you have any accessibility requirements, please do let us know. Please be aware that the vault tour is not accessible due to the nature of the route; however, the networking venue, The White Lion, is fully accessible.
