Overview

Join us online for the latest Engineering Excellence Community Forum, where we’ll be discussing PAS 4010, the new standard for infrastructure productivity.

Productivity is not a matter of isolated interventions or standalone improvement initiatives.

It is shaped by decisions made throughout the lifecycle, from identifying needs and exploring options through to design, delivery, operation and learning. It requires organisations across the value chain to work together, share knowledge, challenge assumptions and make decisions with the wider system in mind.

In this forum, you’ll hear from representatives of three case study projects featured in the ICE’s guidance for PAS 4010: the Strategic Pipeline Alliance, HS2’s Station Road overbridge, and East Riding Live Labs 2.

They’ll delve into productivity improvements made on their projects, and join in a panel led by the Technical Author of PAS 4010 and guidance document, Mark Hansford, on how whole-lifecycle thinking is required for a step-change in infrastructure productivity.

Event summary

The forum will start with a welcome from Darren James, co-lead of the ICE’s Engineering Excellence Community and CEO of Aureos.

Mark Hansford, PAS 4010’s technical author, will give an overview of PAS 4010 and its guidance, and introduce the three speakers.

Lee Ollerenshaw, carbon & innovation lead for the Strategic Pipeline Alliance (SPA); Yuli Doulala-Rigby, chief civil engineer for Tensar; and Giles Perkins, programme director for Live Labs 2, will each give presentations on their respective PAS 4010 guidance case study projects, before joining a panel discussion led by Mark Hansford.

The panel will discuss the productivity lessons we can learn from them and their respective water, transport and energy infrastructure areas, and how we can make the sector-wide changes required to collectively improve the UK’s infrastructure productivity.

The audience will be invited to ask the panel members questions on their projects and on PAS 4010.

Andy Alder, co-lead of the ICE’s Engineering Excellence Community, chair of PAS 4010’s Technical Advisory Panel and managing director of major infrastructure delivery at Anglian Water, will close the event.

If you wish to attend this event, please register via the link. This forum session is open to all, so feel free to forward the details to colleagues who may be interested in PAS 4010.
