Overview

Join ICE NI ECNet and CIWEM for an insightful in‑person technical talk exploring some of the most exciting innovation projects currently underway at Northern Ireland Water.

This session will shine a spotlight on cutting‑edge work designed to increase the capacity and efficiency of wastewater treatment processes while supporting the transition to a low‑carbon future.

We’re delighted to welcome Karen McDowell and Lilian Parkes from NI Water as our speakers for the evening. They will share first‑hand insights into two major innovation initiatives:

  • Wastewater Innovation Project – exploring new approaches and technologies to optimise treatment performance, enhance resilience, and prepare systems for the challenges of population growth and climate change.
  • Hydrogen and Oxygen Demonstration Projects – an exciting look at how wastewater treatment processes can be used to generate valuable green hydrogen and oxygen by‑products. These projects aim to reduce carbon emissions, contribute to energy decarbonisation, and support wider sustainability goals across Northern Ireland.

Whether you’re an early career professional, a student, or simply interested in the future of water and wastewater engineering, this is a brilliant opportunity to:

  • Hear directly from the teams leading this pioneering work
  • Gain insight into real-world applications of new technologies
  • Learn more about sustainability and decarbonisation within the water sector
  • Network with peers from both ICE and CIWEM in a relaxed setting

This promises to be an engaging and informative session with plenty of time for questions and discussion. Spaces are limited, so early booking is encouraged.
