This workshop, led by Engineers Without Borders in collaboration with ICE ECNet and Buro Happold, introduces participants to globally responsible engineering and explores how social, ecological and community-centred thinking can shape built environment decision making. Designed for early career professionals, it brings together engineers and related disciplines to collaborate in small groups and engage with real-world challenges.
Through facilitated activities, participants will examine the local and global impacts of engineering choices, drawing on case studies such as nature based flood mitigation and urban ecosystem restoration
Participants will work with example design proposals developed through the Engineering for People Design Challenge, using them as a springboard to explore community engagement, systems thinking and collaborative problem solving. Groups will discuss ideas, share insights, and consider how different approaches could complement one another to address wider neighbourhood challenges.
The workshop concludes with collective reflections on responsible engineering practice and how participants can apply these principles within their own organisations and projects.
