Overview
The 236-year-old Kelvin Aqueduct carries the Forth and Cycle Canal over the River Kelvin and at the time, was Britain’s largest aqueduct.
The structure's ongoing maintenance includes the dewatering of the basin and repairs to the base of the trough.
This site visit, with Scottish Canals and MacKenzie Construction, will give attendees the opportunity to explore and learn about a feat of canal engineering.
The event will consist of an overview of the project, followed by guided tours of the works to the trough and arches. Attendees will have the opportunity to enter the trough, the first time this has been possible in living memory.
Attendees are required to bring their own personal protective equipment (PPE): hardhat, gloves, high-vis vest, and steel toe cap boots. Lifejackets will be provided.
Attendees should arrive ahead of time to begin at 13:30 promptly.
