Overview
The Princess Royal Award for Emerging Engineers, which was recently renamed in honour of the ICE’s royal patron, celebrates the communication of outstanding engineering ideas, research and best practice in projects and design.
The competition is open to ICE students, graduates, and apprentices—including those professionally qualified as IEng MICE or EngTech MICE and continuing their apprenticeship
Applicants submit and present their paper which may be on any topic related to civil engineering. The competition gives applicants an opportunity to highlight their technical expertise as well as showcase their communication skills.
The regional finalists
The two finalists from the North East are Curtis Jones and Amy Henderson.
They will present their papers online to the judging panel and online audience. Questions from the audience are encouraged.
International Final
Heat winners from all regions are further shortlisted to three finalists who will present their papers again at The Princess Royal Award for Emerging Engineers International Final in Autumn 2026, which will decide the overall ICE Emerging Engineer 2026.
