Overview

If you are considering sitting your Professional Review in the near future, this event will be a unique opportunity to get insight from two experienced geotechnical engineers who are currently ICE Reviewers. Between them, the two ICE Reviewers will discuss how to demonstrate the attributes and present some useful guidance and advice on how to avoid potential pitfalls at the Professional Review.

The presentations will be followed by a short mock interview including a presentation and an interview with recent successful chartered geotechnical engineers. The event will close with a Q&A session.

Yvonne Ainsworth

Yvonne Ainsworth is a Chartered Civil Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers with over 25 years’ experience in UK and international construction.

Her career spans consultancy, specialist geotechnical and civil engineering contracting, as well as senior leadership roles, including Managing Director for GDG and Business Unit Director for Taylor Woodrow. 

She is recognised for her expertise in piling and diaphragm walling, design and construction, and resolving complex technical challenges. In 2024,

Yvonne received the ICE John Mitchell Award and delivered the associated lecture on “The Importance of the 6Ps in Geotechnical Engineering”. A ROGEP Adviser and ICE Reviewer, she actively mentors future engineers. 

She has also completed her Strategic Leadership MBA  with her thesis on the influence of female role models in the construction industry. Yvonne now works for Hawkins as Principal Associate, providing forensic engineering services in complex ground engineering environments.

Sam Wong

Dr Sam Wong is currently a retired Civil and Structural Engineering Consultant. He was Director of Engineering for Carey Civil Engineering for 6 years involved in civil engineering work, deep basements, and tall building constructions. Prior to that, he was Technical Director at WSP and Cantor Seinik UK since 1989, involved in the design of numerous tall buildings in the UK and overseas.
