Overview
During the third webinar in the Blue-Green Infrastructure series, a part of the ICE East Midlands Chair’s Programme, the speakers Nanco Dolman and Dr Emily O'Donnell will look at examples of Blue-Green Infrastructure (BGI) in Portland, Oregon. They will take a closer look into the Blue-Green Futures research (the published article is now available here) and how it’s applied in practice, based on case studies and real examples from Portland, Oregon.
Portland has one of the oldest and most successful BGI programs in the United States. Due to its extensive use of green infrastructure to manage stormwater and reduce combined sewer overflows, the city is a good example of the 'Grey to Green' initiative.
The speakers will review the efforts that have been made in green infrastructure of the city, using ecoroofs and green streets (bioswales), which resulted in a reduction in urban water pollution and the creation of open space.
