Overview

The award-winning Cross Tay Link Road Project (CTLR) is the central element of the Perth Transport Futures Project. It was granted planning permission in October 2020 and opened to the public in March 2025. It is the largest ever infrastructure project undertaken by Perth and Kinross Council. The project has improved the local transport network (for all road users) and traffic flow, increased network capacity and reduced journey times, pollution and congestion in and around Perth.

The project was constructed by engineering and construction group BAM Nuttall Ltd (BAM) with the detailed design undertaken by Arup and Fairhurst. The project consists of:

  • Destiny Bridge, a 3-span bridge over the River Tay supported on large diameter bored piles up to 45m deep
  • The New Kingsway, a six-kilometre stretch of new carriageway linking the A9 and the A93 to Blairgowrie and the A94, just north of Scone
  • The realignment of a two-kilometre stretch of the A9 dual carriageway north of Perth

This presentation aims to summarise and highlight some of the key design elements and intricacies of this project.
