Overview

This webinar will provide an overview of the fundamentals of biodiversity net gain (BNG) as well as share a number of strategies of how BNG can be integrated into future developments.  

Our speaker will also share how the implementation of BNG can be achieved, as well as the how the approach is still evolving as an interdisciplinary service combining a wide range of specialisms.

Gemma Mahoney

Gemma Mahoney, is a chartered ecologist and biodiversity specialist at the Environment Agency, with over 15 years of experience in the ecology field, and a focus on aquatic and intertidal ecosystems. In her current role, which she assumed three years ago, Gemma leads the biodiversity net gain (BNG) initiatives for the Wessex area.

Her responsibilities include: 

  • Implementing the Environment Act (2021) requirements across Wessex. 
  • Collaborating with national teams to shape EA policy and guidance. 
  • Providing BNG training to staff impacted by new regulatory requirements. 
  • Supporting capital programs and projects to ensure BNG compliance.
