Executive Director, Get It Right Initiative
In 2015 a number of UK construction industry companies together with the CITB supported a research project into the costs and causes of avoidable error in UK construction. Among other things, the results suggest that we are spending between 15% and 25% of total project costs dealing with the consequences of avoidable error.
The seminar will set out the background to the research and then explain how 56 organisations including well-known clients, contractors, designers, insurers and technology providers have joined together as the Get It Right Initiative (GIRI). This has the strategic aim of improving construction productivity and quality by eliminating error.
We will explain how the initiative is meeting its goals which are to:
We will discuss the Guide to Improving Value by Reducing Design Error published by the Get It Right Initiative and in particular how the principles set out in the design guide are relevant to the industry as a whole.
We will also discuss GIRI’s proposals for raising the profile of getting it right by developing a universally-accepted metric for measuring error.

A series of web-based workshops aimed at graduate, student and technician members who are working toward EngTech, IEng or CEng with the ICE. These workshops provide advice and guidance on recording Initial Professional Development (IPD), broken down by attribute.

This is an opportunity for Technician members (EngTech MICE/FICE) and those wishing to become qualified at EngTech grade to come together to discuss issues that are important to technicians. This session explores becoming an ICE EngTech reviewer, with benefits and applying.

Join the ECNet for this technical webinar about the design of active travel infrastructure. Two Incorporated Engineers from Mott MacDonald will share key learning from a redevelopment scheme focusing on active travel, and a new layout for the design of CYCLOPS junctions.
