Overview

This webinar will provide advice to the Early Career Network to ensure that they are better equipped to plan, review and supervise work activities at the level they are qualified to do. It will also encourage a "don’t walk by" culture and that they have a responsibility to challenge unsafe behaviours encountered on site.

Christine, health and safey inspector for HSENI, will give a brief overview on:

  • the CDM Regulations (NI) 2016,
  • examples of good and bad practice in risk assessments/method statements,
  • working at heights,
  • excavations,
  • transport,
  • demolition,
  • and health issues.

David, head of infrastructure and projects for Translink will then present on what should be in place for the Early Careers Network on arrival to site e.g. inductions, risk assessment, mentoring and training.

He will detail the appropriate course of action to take when unsafe work activity is identified on site i.e. recognising risk, addressing poor practice, leading by example, managing change and taking responsibility. Concluding with guidance notes for development.

During this webinar a case judgement is discussed. Detail of the ruling can be found here: R v. McKenzie (Norman) [2017] NICA 29.pdf (judiciaryni.uk)
