Overview

It is fundamental to have detailed and accurate ground investigation information to allow suitable and detailed designs to be completed for both permanent and temporary works. This webinar will look at different types of ground investigation available along with the pros and cons of each including:

  1. Applicable codes and standards
  2. Geophysics
  3. Cable percussive drilling
  4. Rotary and resonance (sonic) drilling
  5. Soft Ground conditions
  6. Trial pitting
  7. In-situ testing inc geo-logging
  8. Window (Dynamic) sampling
  9. Trial pitting
  10. Ground water and gas monitoring
  11. Logging, soil and rock testing and reporting (factual and interpretative)

In addition to the above, some broad commercial costs shall be discussed.

Eric draws on over 30 years’ experience in the ground investigation industry starting his career at Sellafield where he worked on the Nirex project drilling 3,000m boreholes, he then spent a further 8 years working for Soil Mechanics (Socotec) and Thyssen (Quantum Geotechnical). He then spent ten years working for an Environmental and Geotechnical consultancy called Mouchel Parkman (now merged with WSP) then moved back into contracting in 2010 and is currently an Associate Director at Structural Soils responsible for their business development.
