Tunnelling on the Central 1 (C1) section of HS2 Phase One that Align is delivering commenced a year ago on the 7th of May with the launch of Align’s first TBM Florence. This presentation will give a brief overview of the project and an update on progress & achievements to-date, including innovations that have been introduced to expedite progress and enhance safety performance.

Shannon O’Keeffe is the TBM manager for both Up-Track and Down-Track Tunnels. Shannon has been on the C1 Contract since mid-2021, managing the TBM operations and tunnel back-end works. Prior to joining Bouygues Construction UK, Shannon spent 9 years working for Costain on London Power Tunnels 1, Hinkley Point C Marine Works, HS2 Enabling Works South and finally Thames Tideway East. Prior to relocating to the UK in 2012, Shannon spent over 6 years working for various Tier 1 Contractors in his native Australia.
Shannon is a graduate of Monash University in Melbourne, a chartered engineer and member of both the ICE and Engineers Australia.
