Next steps: how do we improve the productivity of infrastructure delivery in Australia?

Overview

Productivity is a longstanding issue facing the Australian construction industry. And despite many initiatives to address it, the situation hasn’t improved. According to the Productivity Commission, Australians are “running to stand still”. Countries worldwide are facing the challenges of rising costs and diminishing workforces.

With Australia experiencing these problems acutely, the ICE has convened this timely public debate to discuss how they could improve the quality of outcomes (effectiveness) and reduce waste (efficiency) in its infrastructure delivery – and what lessons this might teach policymakers world wide.

This is the third ICE Next Steps programme, a policy insight series that puts the ICE at the forefront of global discussions on the key issues affecting the civil engineering industry and society today.

This event is linked to the launch of a new ICE policy research programme on improving the productivity of infrastructure delivery in Australia. The newly published scoping paper can be found here: How can the productivity of infrastructure delivery in Australia be improved? ICE scoping paper.

Note: early in the new year, a Green Paper will be published for consultation.
