technical authority for inclusive design
Steve is the technical authority for inclusive design, within AtkinsRéalis transportation division. He advises on a wide range of transportation, urban realm, and other projects, including rail and active travel. His entire professional experience ranges through from design, technical delivery, onsite, advisory, engagement to research work.
He is a subject matter expert for research, thought leadership and key documentation activities undertaken for DfT, HS2, Network Rail, GBRTT, National Highways, and other clients, including the accessibility assessment of 2575 UK rail stations and the technical leadership for a new document of particular significance - which will be publicly available by the time he delivers his talk.
An RIBA Chartered Architect since 1992, a consultant member of the UK's national register of access consultant since 2003, a British standards institute committee member since 2008 and a fellow of the Schumacher institute for sustainable systems since 2012.
Steve is also a public speaker and published author on the subject of designing mind-friendly environments. he also has personal experience of dyslexia, and working directly with additional needs, including via Social Services with people in an enabling capacity.
