Overview
The FLOW footbridge is a result of a fresh approach to collaborative working. The project focused on doing things differently to create a highly motivated and empowered team to do what they are best at.
This is a Network Rail Research and Development portfolio funded project to develop a low cost lightweight solution to close railway foot crossings. The prototype bridge offers a lower cost solution by utilising a high strength, low weight material and modular design, drastically reducing construction time and cost. It also incorporates a structural health monitoring system that will help improve the design and change Network Rail manages the asset.
The focus of the design has been to create a bridge that enhances communities and the use of new materials that can reduce the impact to the environment. This project has demonstrated what is possible with the talent in the UK. The challenge is how we make the most of it.
This event is co-badged with the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE).
