Overview

This online event, organised by ICE United Arab Emirates, explores the challenges and opportunities associated with variations in construction contracts, a topic that continues to influence project performance across the industry. While variation clauses are designed to provide flexibility during implementation, they often lead to delays, claims, cost escalation and disputes when not managed effectively.

The session examines why variations carry such significant risk, how pre‑estimation can be used as a proactive tool to reduce negative impacts, and what practical steps contract administrators and project teams can take to improve outcomes. Drawing on real project experience and insights from international practice, the presentation highlights strategies that enhance clarity, reduce uncertainty and support more efficient contract delivery.

The event was delivered as an online presentation followed by an interactive discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with the speaker and explore how these concepts apply to their own projects. It is suitable for engineers, contract managers, procurement professionals and anyone involved in the administration of construction contracts.
