Overview

This online learned event, organised by ICE Qatar, introduces the key principles of micro tunnelling technology and explore its growing role in infrastructure development across Qatar. As urban environments expand, trenchless technologies such as micro tunnelling offer significant advantages for installing underground utilities with minimal surface disruption.

The session covers the differences between Design & Build and Design-Bid-Build project delivery methods, highlighting how each approach impacts the planning, coordination, and execution of micro tunnelling projects. Viewers can gain insights into design coordination challenges, construction phase considerations, and the allocation of risks between project stakeholders.

Drawing on his extensive project experience, Eng. Waleed Khadr, Senior Architectural Project Engineer at PWA (Ashghal), shares practical lessons learned from supervising micro tunnelling works on major Qatari infrastructure projects. Topics include design risk management, QA/QC processes, and effective strategies for successful project delivery.

Delivered via Microsoft Teams, this one-hour session is aimed for civil engineers, project managers, and infrastructure practitioners interested in trenchless technology applications within the Gulf region. Attendees had the opportunity to engage with the speaker during a live Q&A segment.
